Crinoid Fossil Localities

Crinoid fossils of the Silurian period can be found in the greatest numbers in the eastern United States and the United Kingdom. Crinoid fossils from the Devonian period can be found in Michigan, Kentucky, New York State and in Germany. Crinoid fossils from the Carboniferous period can be found in Russia, Belgium and the United Kingdom. Rocks of the Mississippian period in Indiana and Iowa have many crinoid fossils as do rocks from the Pennsylvanian period in the middle United States. Other crinoid fossils can be found in rocks from the Triassic period in Germany and the Permian period in the island of Timor. Although crinoids are commonly found in the locations listed above, they can also be found in many other places. The Roadside Geology Series published by the Mountain Press Publishing Company is a good place to find more detailed information about fossil localities in the states.
