Dinosaur Egg Appearance
Dinosaur eggs are formed by females after sexual reproduction in a process very similar to that used by modern birds. Dinosaur eggs were either oval shaped or round and were brittle and rigid unlike snake or turtle eggs. However, dinosaur eggs were similar to reptile eggs, bird eggs and early eggs of mammals in that the embryo was prevented from drying out by a membrane referred to as the amnion. Not all dinosaurs exhibited long term parental care; in fact many dinosaurs would lay their eggs and walk away.
