Saber Tooth Cat Fossil Localities

Saber tooth cats have also been reported in the mountainous areas of Columbia, Paraguay and Columbia in addition to the La Brea Tar Pits, Alaska, Canada and Siberia. It is possible that the saber tooth cat colonized these areas, much like the puma. In this case, it would be probable that some saber tooth cats escaped extinction during the Ice Age. Although some scientists think that these cats may actually be saber tooth cats, it is equally as possible they are surviving saber tooth marsupials such as Thylacosmilidae. In 1975, Paraguay, a jaguar with 12-inch teeth was found and killed. This animal was described as a mutant jaguar so that the public would not be alarmed.
