Tyrannosaurus Rex
Tyrannosaurus Rex Info: Tyrannosaurus rex was an enormous theropod dinosaur that lived between 65-66 million years ago in the last part of the Cretaceous period. Tyrannosaurus rex fossils are rare with only 30 being found since fossil hunting began. T-rex fossils are particularly interesting because they represent possibly the largest carnivorous dinosaur that ever lived.
Discovery of the First Tyrannosaurus Rex Fossil: Edward Cope found the first Tyrannosaurus rex fossil in 1892, although it was only a portion of the vertebra. At this time it was referred to as Manospondylus gigas, although in 1912 it was named Tyrannosaurus rex by Henry Osborn. The next Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton was found in 1900 in Wyoming by Barnum Brown, a curator for the American Museum of Natural History.
Tyrannosaurus Rex Fossil Descriptions: The jaws of a Tyrannosaurus rex are imposing in size. At lengths of 13 meters or 43 feet, the Tyrannosaurus rex also had huge jaws capable of biting into the bones of its prey. (More...)
